The Brief
Create a versatile logo suite for Interspecies Mediation Society.
Inspired by the uncertain and complex nature of human-animal proximity, (iMs) explores interspecies conflict as an ongoing practice of mediation, rather than a problem to be “solved”. Operating at the intersections of art, ecology, politics, policy, and poetics, iMs anticipates an increase in territorial overlap and explores ecocentric approaches to sharing critical resources – food, water, sunlight, shelter, and space – between humans and wild animals.
My Approach
Designing the logo for the Interspecies Mediation Society (iMs) is a thoughtful journey into human-animal coexistence, symbolized by a red wolf adorned with folk markings. The logo harmonizes the mystical and the pragmatic, illustrating the society's mission to explore the nuanced human-wildlife relationship. With its horizontal layout, versatile submarks, and the use of Averia Serif Libre typography, it provides flexibility across mediums while maintaining an ethos of negotiation, cohabitation, and conflict as a catalyst for enrichment. Inspired by Karen Bradshaw’s insights on wildlife co-ownership, the design reflects a commitment to sharing resources and spaces, embracing interspecies mediation. This logo is more than a visual identity; it serves as a manifesto and beacon for the society's vision of reimagining human-animal conflict and fostering a future where magic, spirituality, and the wild are celebrated.

“The complexity she was able to capture and clarify in a simple graphic was nothing short of poetic. Jennifer Harris is a visual poet. She is concise and she is careful and it shows throughout her process and in her deliverables.”
